Unit 1Seeds Overview
This unit invites students to discover powerful truths hidden in the natural world. As students observe, explore, and investigate the wonders of nature, they will begin to uncover something remarkable—these same truths are not just found in seeds and plants, but within themselves.
Our goal is to help children develop a deeply personal understanding of their own uniqueness, value, and potential. By starting with something familiar and visible, we gently guide students toward ideas that are deeper and unseen. This “known to unknown” approach allows young learners to connect what they can touch and see in nature to who they are becoming. Ultimately, we aim to equip students not only to understand themselves, but to grow into individuals who can positively shape the world around them.
Our journey begins with something small and often overlooked—the humble seed. At first glance, most children might say seeds are not very impressive. They aren’t big, bright, or particularly exciting. But through careful observation and hands-on discovery, students will begin to see that each seed is far more than it appears. In fact, every seed is a tiny package of “tree-mendous” power, filled with life, purpose, and possibility.
Throughout this unit, students will explore a variety of fascinating seeds and the plants they become. Through engaging science experiments and guided discussions, they will uncover important truths. As students grasp these ideas, they will also begin to understand a deeper connection: just like seeds, each of them holds incredible potential within. What they become is not determined by how they look on the outside, but by what is inside and how they grow.
By the end of this unit, students will not only understand seeds in a new way—they will begin to see themselves in a new way, too.
